The cutest little old man came into the tasting room on Sunday and the first words out of his mouth were “I don’t drink rum”. I said, “You will once you have our rum!” We hear that a lot. People have a preconceived notion about rum (usually stemming from a bad experience with swill) sometime in their early twenties. So naturally it’s difficult to overcome their objections.

The “Rum” battle is fought uphill. I can’t count the number of times people bypass me in a liquor store or in the tasting room because “they don’t drink rum”. And I could understand if Deco Distilling made just rum, but our products are so unique and original that the word “Rum” shouldn’t come into play (unless of course you LOVE rum). Wasn’t it Shakespeare that wrote “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”?

Deco Distilling’s Silver Rum is the the most delightful on the market. It’s smooth, distilled from Molasses, with hints of vanilla at the finish.It can be sampled at room temperature, on a 90 degree day, and STILL taste phenomenal. It’s the best silver available in Oregon in its price point.

Deco Coffee Rum won a Silver Medal at the World Spirits Festival in San Francisco this year (incidentally it was the only flavored rum to be honored).It’s truly Portland in a bottle. Boozy, caffeinated, and pleasant; it embodies everything that makes our great city such a wonderful place to live. Try it with hot cocoa or in place of Kahlua, you won’t be sorry.

And Deco Ginger Rum is simply amazing! You can cook with it, you can use it in place of vodka, triple sec, or vermouth. A Ginger Rum toddy is the best cure for a cold I’ve ever found, and nothing quite beats a Ginger Rum hot apple cider on a rainy day.

If we didn’t call our Ginger or Coffee spirit “rum” you’d never know. However, The benefit to making both products with rum is that we don’t have to add a bunch of sugar and other artificial sweeteners to make it taste good; because our rum base is delicious.  Our recipes are finely honed and organically conceived and like nothing you’ve ever tried before.

Are Deco’s flavored products different? Of course!
